Week 6 – Color Correction VS Color Grading

Color Correction and Color Grading are two distinct stages in post-production that both shape the visual look of a video, but they serve different purposes:

- Color Correction
Purpose: Ensures consistency and natural appearance by adjusting the footage to accurate colors and balanced lighting.
Process: It involves fixing technical errors like exposure, white balance, contrast, and saturation to make the footage look more realistic or true-to-life.
Goal: Create a neutral, polished baseline from which color grading can be applied if desired.

- Color Grading
Purpose: Adds a stylized look and specific mood or tone to the video, enhancing the storytelling or atmosphere.
Process: Manipulates colors artistically to evoke particular emotions or fit a creative vision, like adding a warm or cool tint, adjusting shadows, and highlights, or even selectively enhancing certain colors.
Goal: Transform the footage into a visually unique style that contributes to the narrative.

- Color Theory:
A framework for understanding color interactions and creating pleasing combinations. It helps us choose colors that evoke specific emotions and communicate visually effective messages.

1. Color Wheel: A circular diagram of colors arranged by their chromatic relationships, originally developed by Sir Isaac Newton. The color wheel shows primary (red, yellow, blue), secondary (green, orange, purple), and tertiary colors (combinations of primary and secondary colors).
2. Color Harmony: Aesthetic combinations like complementary, analogous, and triadic schemes.
3. Color Temperature: Classifies colors as "warm" (reds, oranges, yellows) or "cool" (blues, greens, purples), which can affect mood, emotion, and spatial perception.
4. Color Contrast: How colors interact and affect perception.

Week 7 – Mise en scène

Mise en scène is a French term meaning "placing on stage," and it refers to the arrangement and design of visual elements in a film, play, or photo to create a particular atmosphere, mood, or meaning. It includes everything that appears before the camera or audience, contributing to the storytelling and emotional impact.

The key components are:

1. Setting and Location: The physical environment where the action happens, shaping the story’s context, era, and overall feel.
2. Props and Objects: Items present in the scene or used by characters, often symbolic or significant to the plot.
3. Costume and Makeup: Wardrobe and makeup that communicate aspects of a character’s identity, personality, or state.
4. Lighting: Light and shadow to emphasize mood, direct focus, and create atmosphere.
5. Composition and Framing: The arrangement of elements within the frame or on stage, influences how relationships and power dynamics are perceived.
6. Performance and Acting: Actors' expressions, gestures, and movements add depth, subtext, and emotional resonance.
7. Color Palette: Colors used in costumes, lighting, and sets, helping to evoke emotions and highlight themes.
8. Spatial Relationships: Distances and arrangements among characters and objects, signaling intimacy, tension, or hierarchy.

Each aspect of Mise en scène works together to enhance visual storytelling and immerse the audience in the narrative world.

Week 6: EEAAO Production Shoot

Shooting

As the director of the group, in order to complete the shooting better and faster, I remade a storyboard, marking the people and props needed to perform as well as the specific action details and lighting details.

Editing

After he uploaded the video we shot, I started making the video.

First, I selected the background music for the video, because I thought the video needed to be edited based on the music, so after determining the music for the video, I confirmed the overall tone of the video.

Then, I cut and arranged the video according to the music, and then added dubbing and subtitles.

After completing the above steps, I added some video effects and transitions to the video to make it more complete.

Week 7: Color Correction VS Color Grading

For this week's task, we were instructed to color-grade the clips of EEAAO that we had edited in the previous week.

Color grade your production shoot with the combination of the following:
· Teal & Orange,
· Bluish (cold),
· Greenish (cold),
· Brownish (warm),
· Desaturation, 50%-70%,
· B & W, High Contrast.

EXERCISE 2 / TIKTOK & INSTA

I think I have two different personalities when I study and when I have fun, because when I study I don’t like to be disturbed or go out to socialize, but when I have fun I want to go out and have fun every day, and then do all kinds of entertainment activities every day. So I compared before and after makeup, before and after waking up, and also compared the content.

REFLECTION

The personalized video assignment allowed me to express my individuality and creativity more freely. Unlike the group project, I had full control over the concept, editing, and storytelling. However, this also meant that I had to handle all aspects, from filming to post-production, which was time-consuming.

Some challenges I faced included:

Self-Filming Limitations – Without a camera operator, certain shots were difficult to execute.
Finding the Right Tone & Style – Since this was a personal project, I wanted it to feel authentic while still being engaging.
Balancing Creativity & Technical Execution – Ensuring smooth transitions, good pacing, and high-quality visuals required multiple edits.
To improve the final product, I:

Used a Tripod & Remote Shutter – This helped stabilize my shots and allowed for better framing.
Experimented with Different Edits – I tested various transitions, music, and effects to enhance the storytelling.
Got Feedback from Peers – Input from others helped me refine my video before submission.
This assignment reinforced my ability to work independently while also honing my technical skills in video production. It was a great opportunity to showcase my personality and creativity, making the project both enjoyable and meaningful. Moving forward, I plan to explore more advanced filming techniques and storytelling methods to improve my future video content.
