LECTURES:

Week 7
We need to choose one song from the list below, appreciate the song, hear it through and understand the lyrics. Then required to sketch initial ideas , figure out  storyline, illustrate and compose and animate a ‘moment’ base of our understanding from the chosen song.

Then songs list are as below:

1. Fly me to the moon
2. The way you look tonight
3. Come fly with me
4. Girl from Ipanema
5. New York, New York

Week 8: Independent Learning Week

Week 9
This week, Mr. Hafiz introduced the Pencil Tool in Adobe Illustrator. The Pencil Tool is a very intuitive drawing tool that allows users to create paths and shapes by freehand drawing.

The steps to use the Pencil Tool are as follows:

1. Select the Pencil Tool
2. Set Options
3. Draw Paths
4. Edit Paths

Next, Mr. Hafiz introduced the Type on a Path Tool. This tool allows users to input text along a path or shape, making typography more diverse and creative.

The steps to use the Type on a Path Tool are as follows:

1. Create a Path
First, create a path or shape using any drawing tool, such as the Pencil Tool or Pen Tool.
2. Select the Type on a Path Tool
Find and select the Type on a Path icon in the toolbar, or use the shortcut "Shift + T" for quick selection.
3. Apply Text
Hover the Type on a Path Tool over the path. When the cursor changes to an I-beam with a curve, click on the path to start typing. The text will appear along the path.
4. Adjust Text
Use the Character Panel and Paragraph Panel to adjust text attributes such as font, size, and spacing. You can use the Selection Tool to adjust the text's position on the path.

Week 10
Mr. Hafiz gave a briefing about the 2D Intertwine feature in Adobe Illustrator. This feature allows users to create complex designs where different elements appear to weave in and out of each other, creating a visually intricate and appealing effect.

Here are the detailed steps to use the 2D Intertwine feature:

1. Create Your Shapes
2. Select the Objects
Use the Selection Tool (V) to select all the objects
3. Apply Intertwine:
["Object" menu > "Intertwine" > "Make" ]
4. Adjust the Intertwining
Click on the "Edit" button in the Properties Panel or double-click the intertwined objects to enter the editing mode.
Use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to click and drag the anchor points and paths to refine the intertwining effect.
5. Refine the Design

Then songs list are as below:

1. Fly me to the moon  ⬅️ [ I choose this one ]
2. The way you look tonight
3. Come fly with me
4. Girl from Ipanema
5. New York, New York

-initial storyline
The proposal tells a compelling story of escape and introspection. The character's relaxed, almost indifferent expression contrasts with the grandeur of the moon/mars landscape, suggesting a sense of detachment from reality. The inclusion of items like the bottle and the cigar further adds to the narrative, hinting at a moment of reflection or escapism. The setting, with its dramatic, otherworldly backdrop, evokes a sense of adventure and exploration, aligning with the song's themes. The overall mood is one of serene contemplation, inviting viewers to imagine their own journey to the moon/mars.

-ideas
·After listening these song, i prefer to choose the first one, and there were references to Mars and Jupiter in the lyrics, which was he looking forward to see.
·Then I looked into his profile online and found that he had lived a very depressed life for a period of time, often smoking and drinking. However, his passion to music was true.

-Reference

These are some inspirations i found on Pinterest:

03

Through observation of these three pictures, I found that their common feature is that the color is very bold, and the visual impact of the picture is very strong, which is what I need to learn when designing.

-Process(sketches)

Then I began to think about the overall layout on Procreate

Because the style I refer to is pop art, but at the same time, I find that the appropriate addition of retro elements will increase the interest, so my main color is warm, but in order to highlight the characters and match the style of pop art, I decide to use a combination of bright purple and retro purple.

This is the picture of Mars that I refer to because the lyrics mention that this is what he aspires to.

This is the color tray I found in Adobe Color, which I used when coloring the background of the character.

This is what I sketched on Procreate:

Then I did line artwork in the tablet version of illustrator because I found that it was better for me to draw in this way than using a mouse.

Ex.3a.07

This is the first time I finished the sketch. Due to my carelessness, first of all, the title lacks me. Secondly, under the guidance of Mr.Hafiz, he told me the importance of the title, so I found a more suitable Font in Adobe Font again.

-Overall, My album covers mainly Pop Art but also has some Retro elements.

So here are some of the creative characteristics I used:

· Bright colors: The use of bright and bold colors such as purple and orange, which are common in pop art, enhances the visual impact.
· Broad lines and simple modeling: The figures and backgrounds have clear lines and simple shapes, which is typical of Pop art style.
· Flat performance: The image as a whole presents a two-dimensional plane effect, without too many gradients and shadows, so that it appears flat and eye-catching.
· Retro elements: Pop art often borrows and incorporates retro elements, and this cover also has a retro feel, especially in the font and figure modeling.
· Satire and humor: the relaxed and intoxicated state of the characters on the cover, coupled with the lyrics "Fly Me to the Moon", conveys a surreal sense of humor, which is also a common expression of pop art.

REFLECTION:

-This assignment was a comprehensive learning experience that combined music analysis, historical research, creative interpretation, and technical illustration skills. The final album cover not only captures the essence of "Fly Me to the Moon" but also reflects a thoughtful and imaginative design process.
-And this project allowed me to apply and refine various visual and technical skills. From composition and color theory to illustration techniques, each element was carefully crafted to create a cohesive and striking design. The pop art style, characterized by bold lines and vivid colors, was chosen to make the cover visually engaging and relevant to contemporary audiences.
