Design Principle-Task 3 :Design

Here is the Module Information Booklet (MIB) of Design Principles (GCD60804) :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

a. Recap Of Task3:

Based on the Task2 work introduced earlier, the inspiration and feelings are conveyed through the design of a piece, and the design principles learned in Task1 need to be applied.

Surrealism
The trend in literature and art of the twentieth century, which developed in the 1920s in the artistic culture of Western Avant-Gardism. It is distinguished by the use of allusions and paradoxical combinations of forms. It is believed that surrealism developed for more than forty years before the emergence of new trends in the 1960s.

e. Rationale:

My theme is poverty. Inspired by the task2 artwork, my work is also characterized by a realistic style.
As you can see from the picture, the hands below are shackled by iron chains, and his hands are holding a fish tank, the middle is a goldfish, and I deliberately chose the goldfish as it symbolizes wealth and happiness in China, so it is carefully held by the poor people (lower hand), longing for the wealth and happiness, but their hands are tied and prevent them from obtaining the goldfish.
On the other hand, the hands above are depicted as illusory, with white threads wrapped between the fingers, controlling the goldfish in the middle, which is an invisible control. The upper and lower figures reflect the class antagonism, the rich can enjoy wealth and happiness, while the poor struggle to attain the wealth and happiness they desire.
To sum up, my intention is to satirize social inequality, the material or spiritual wealth desired by the poor is merely a puppet in the hands of the rich.  (175 words)

Design Principles I found in my creation:

1.Contrast:👉The contrast between an illusory hand and a real hand.
👉The contrast of colors emphasizes the allure of the material world.

2.Balance:👉Asymmetrical Balance (Rules Of Third)
                                                         👇
Divided evenly into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, creates a visual equilibrium.

3.Emphasis:👉The top and bottom are gray, and the goldfish in the middle is reddish-orange.

4.Movement:👉The fish jumps upwards and the white line seems to be moving in a visual image, guiding the viewer's gaze.

5.Hierarchy:👉The goldfish is placed in the middle, which means that both the upper and lower hands are eager to obtain the goldfish in the middle, and it also emphasizes that the goldfish is the main reason for the difference between the upper and lower hands.

6.Harmony:👉Although the two hands are drawn in different forms, they also use the element of the hand to express the theme of the design work.

7.Symbol:👉Figurative Symbols
                       👇
a.Goldfish represent happiness and what people want to plunder.
b.The white line represents the invisible control from the wealthy.
c.The chains represent restrictions on the poor.

f. Feedback from the lecturer:

When I finished my design work for the first time, Dr.Charles thought that my work lacked the focus, the picture was too messy, there was no focus point, and he patiently explained to me what kind of work is called "focus".
Like the following dinosaur and the man who fought it, although it is a simple example, but it is particularly clear to me how to highlight the point.
Therefore, in the second design work, I tried to interpret the advice given by Dr Charles, and in the second communication with Dr.Charles, he affirmed my work! Thank you very much for his guidance to me!💕

* Supplementary Instruction:
Today, in the 21st century, the gap between the rich and the poor persists, leading to societal instability and disparity. The unequal distribution of income and wealth has permitted a select few to amass colossal wealth, while the majority confronts poverty and economic vulnerability. The inconspicuous influence of the rich over the indigent is not only extends beyonds economic control to encompass educational resources, healthcare security, and other aspects.
As commoners, although our influence is finite, we can still contribute positively to mitigating the wealth gap through the combined efforts of many, aiding those who remain in dire poverty.
